It's cold, snowy & windy. I am definitely not in Florida anymore! For the holidays I always travel back to Chicago to spend time with my family. It's always interesting leaving 80 degree weather and 2.5 hours later landing in 30 degree temperatures.
On Saturday morning my amazing running friend Maureen and I drove from Chicago to Milwaukee to run the Santa Hustle 5k race in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was 16 degrees!!! Icy. Snowy. Crazy cold. But running along Lake Michigan with thousands of people dressed in Santa outfits, with cookie and candy aid stations was a blast! I would definitely participate in another Santa Hustle event - hopefully I will be able to make their Daytona Beach 1/2 marathon next year. After the event they had a free breakfast buffet and after party at a local bar Downtown Milwaukee. A fun way to get in the holiday spirit & be active! Thank you Maureen for joining me for this event (and driving us to Milwaukee!)
One bad thing about the holidays is staying on track with my health and fitness goals. Luckily I have a solid base under me, especially with running the Jacksonville Bank Marathon my last Sunday in Florida. I am using the holidays to rest & recover. I am going to need it for what I have in store for 2013!
After the holidays when I get back to Tampa I am going to be starting the 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse. I am going to post my results & journey while doing this cleanse and hope that once you see the results you will attempt a cleanse of your own. After the three day cleanse I will continue running and RevAbs. I will be participating in the 2013 Disney World Marathon weekend with the Goofy Challenge. Once the challenge is complete my training is going HARDCORE - & you are invited to join me!!
As you may have heard starting January 21 I will be holding a 60 day fitness challenge. I will be doing this challenge along with all participants. We will be doing INSANITY for 60 days - BY THE BOOK. We will be following the nutrition + fitness + Shakeology for 60 days. Posting our results, being held accountable & being supported by others from all over on our fitness and health journey. Please join us with this 60 day fitness challenge. Start off 2013 right - be healthy and fit & let InsaneMarathon.com help you achieve the goals you never thought we're possible! To join the challenge please click here to purcace the INSANITY Challenge Pack! - I will then contact you with more information and add you to our private group!
Two more half marathons complete. One more full marathon done. Time to enjoy the holidays!
I ran the Florida Beaches Holiday Halfathon on December 9. This was only 1 week after my HUGE half marathon PR in Brandon. I ran the race as a training run, wearing a Santa hat. It was hot & humid. I had this event on my training schedule for two reasons. 1) It was the only Florida Beach series half marathon I had not completed and 2) the medal was AWESOME! (see photo below).
Only a few days later I ran the 12-12-12 Half Marathon of Sarasota. Last year I participated in the 11-11-11 Marathon of Sarasota which is put on by Gregg Goebel, a fellow marathon maniac. The interesting thing about this race is it's relatively small field, camaraderie amongst runners & the fact you are running roughly 1/2 mile laps around a pedestrian walkway in a park. I would have typically ran the marathon but because I was trying to keep my legs as fresh as I could for the upcoming Jacksonville Bank Marathon on Sunday I 'only' ran the 1/2. Good thing I did, because I was the OVERALL WINNER of the 1/2! What a great time the 12-12-12 event was and I look forward to running the full on 11-12-13.
Saturday I ran in the St. Petersburg Color Run. This was a very interesting event because it really wasn't as much of a run as it was a parade of color. They had over 11,000 participants and sure enough color was everywhere! I really didn't get to enjoy the after party or anything because as soon as the color run was over I had to pack up and leave for Jacksonville.
I had been so excited all year for the Jacksonville Bank Marathon because it is where my current marathon PR is set and I had all hopes of breaking my PR there this year. A you can tell, that didn't happen. I blame the warmer than usual weather for not hitting my goal. It could have been a multitude of things like running a lot of races recently - running hard for my 1/2 marathon PR only 2 weeks prior. But I kept the pace I needed up until mile 20. Then everything went downhill. The heat really kills me. I am going to be looking at the forecast very closely for the Disney Marathon. If it is looking ideal - I may re-attempt a PR at that race in January!
Now it's time to head up north for Christmas. This weekend I have no marathon, half marathon or any long distance run planned. Instead I will be headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for The Santa Hustle 5k with my good friend Maureen. We will dress up as Santa and run around the streets of Downtown Milwaukee. My other workouts over the holidays will consist of planking, pushups, abs & making sure I drink my Shakeology!!! I will not let the holidays hurt all of my hard work!

Another week of training. Another half marathon. More ab / core work. New PR!
That is how my post Space Coast Marathon week went. After running my 16th full marathon I took the day after off from training. I had to travel to Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday and was able to get in some nice recovery running in along the beach and Las Olas Boulevard. Tuesday I ran 3.75 miles along A1A and Wednesday I ran 6 miles down A1A and Las Olas. Thursday and Friday I did RevAbs. Friday I also threw a fast 3 mile run in after My RevAbs core work. I did the first 2 miles at a 7:30 pace and the last mile at a 6:58 pace. I took Saturday off of training to prepare myself for the Brandon 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.
I felt like there was a chance I could PR at the Brandon 1/2 Marathon. My training has been going well. My legs felt very strong after coming off of the Space Coast Marathon. The weather wasn't going to be cold, but it was not going to be scorching hot - which always takes a toll on my racing times. I wanted to run a sub 1:40. I figured I would need to keep around a 7:30 min/mile pace for all 13.1 miles. The Brandon 1/2 marathon isn't scenic, it's not a large race & it doesn't have the bells and whistles most major 1/2 marathons have. It had an accurate course & water stops around every 1.75 miles. That's all I needed. I pushed myself harder than I ever have for a race. I was running around a 7:35 min/mile pace and at mile 10 I was still on track to run under 1:40 if I didn't slow down at all. I finished the race at 1:39:53. It's crazy to think that I was only 7 seconds away from missing my goal. That's one walk break, or just about half a second a mile.
My overall physical fitness has never been better. I know that it is because of INSANITY and RevAbs cross-training that I have been incorporating into my marathon training programs. I also continue to use Results & Recovery to refuel & heal my muscles after intense workouts and Shakeology to improve my overall health & nutrition.
This weekend I am running the St. Petersburg Jingle Bell Run 5k on Friday night and the Florida Holiday Halfathon (1/2 marathon) on Sunday. I will also be participating in the 12-12-12 Half Marathon of Sarasota. The following weekend I have the Color Run 5k in St. Petersburg 12/15 and on Sunday 12/16 my target PR marathon race - Jacksonville Bank Marathon.
