It's cold, snowy & windy. I am definitely not in Florida anymore! For the holidays I always travel back to Chicago to spend time with my family. It's always interesting leaving 80 degree weather and 2.5 hours later landing in 30 degree temperatures.

On Saturday morning my amazing running friend Maureen and I drove from Chicago to Milwaukee to run the Santa Hustle 5k race in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was 16 degrees!!! Icy. Snowy. Crazy cold. But running along Lake Michigan with thousands of people dressed in Santa outfits, with cookie and candy aid stations was a blast! I would definitely participate in another Santa Hustle event - hopefully I will be able to make their Daytona Beach 1/2 marathon next year. After the event they had a free breakfast buffet and after party at a local bar Downtown Milwaukee. A fun way to get in the holiday spirit & be active! Thank you Maureen for joining me for this event (and driving us to Milwaukee!)

One bad thing about the holidays is staying on track with my health and fitness goals. Luckily I have a solid base under me, especially with running the Jacksonville Bank Marathon my last Sunday in Florida. I am using the holidays to rest & recover. I am going to need it for what I have in store for 2013!

After the holidays when I get back to Tampa I am going to be starting the 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse. I am going to post my results & journey while doing this cleanse and hope that once you see the results you will attempt a cleanse of your own. After the three day cleanse I will continue running and RevAbs. I will be participating in the 2013 Disney World Marathon weekend with the Goofy Challenge. Once the challenge is complete my training is going HARDCORE - & you are invited to join me!!

As you may have heard starting January 21 I will be holding a 60 day fitness challenge. I will be doing this challenge along with all participants. We will be doing INSANITY for 60 days - BY THE BOOK. We will be following the nutrition + fitness + Shakeology for 60 days. Posting our results, being held accountable & being supported by others from all over on our fitness and health journey. Please join us with this 60 day fitness challenge. Start off 2013 right - be healthy and fit & let InsaneMarathon.com help you achieve the goals you never thought we're possible!

To join the challenge please click here to purcace the INSANITY Challenge Pack! - I will then contact you with more information and add you to our private group!

Another week of training. Another half marathon. More ab / core work. New PR!

That is how my post Space Coast Marathon week went. After running my 16th full marathon I took the day after off from training. I had to travel to Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday and was able to get in some nice recovery running in along the beach and Las Olas Boulevard. Tuesday I ran 3.75 miles along A1A and Wednesday I ran 6 miles down A1A and Las Olas. Thursday and Friday I did RevAbs. Friday I also threw a fast 3 mile run in after My RevAbs core work. I did the first 2 miles at a 7:30 pace and the last mile at a 6:58 pace. I took Saturday off of training to prepare myself for the Brandon 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.

I felt like there was a chance I could PR at the Brandon 1/2 Marathon. My training has been going well. My legs felt very strong after coming off of the Space Coast Marathon. The weather wasn't going to be cold, but it was not going to be scorching hot - which always takes a toll on my racing times. I wanted to run a sub 1:40. I figured I would need to keep around a 7:30 min/mile pace for all 13.1 miles. The Brandon 1/2 marathon isn't scenic, it's not a large race & it doesn't have the bells and whistles most major 1/2 marathons have. It had an accurate course & water stops around every 1.75 miles. That's all I needed. I pushed myself harder than I ever have for a race. I was running around a 7:35 min/mile pace and at mile 10 I was still on track to run under 1:40 if I didn't slow down at all. I finished the race at 1:39:53. It's crazy to think that I was only 7 seconds away from missing my goal. That's one walk break, or just about half a second a mile.

My overall physical fitness has never been better. I know that it is because of INSANITY and RevAbs cross-training that I have been incorporating into my marathon training programs. I also continue to use Results & Recovery to refuel & heal my muscles after intense workouts and Shakeology to improve my overall health & nutrition.

This weekend I am running the St. Petersburg Jingle Bell Run 5k on Friday night and the Florida Holiday Halfathon (1/2 marathon) on Sunday. I will also be participating in the 12-12-12 Half Marathon of Sarasota. The following weekend I have the Color Run 5k in St. Petersburg 12/15 and on Sunday 12/16 my target PR marathon race - Jacksonville Bank Marathon.

INSANITY marathon training is on track.  This past week I was able to get in 3 INSANITY workouts (Max Cardio Conditioning, Max Interval Circuit, ASYLUM: Strength).  This week I changed things up and added in some Insanity: The Asylum into training.  I felt like I needed some strength training and removed Core Cardio and Balance to allow Asylum: Strength.  It was definitely rough & I felt the muscle burn the next day. Results and Recovery formula always helps after a strength workout or any tough workout for that matter.  You should try it yourself! One of InsaneMarathon.com's facebook fans Nikki T. let me know her feedback using Results and Recovery "The Results & Recovery drink has a great taste. I used it on the 2nd day of double digit training runs & I feel it helped in my quicker recovery."

Running workouts for the week included a 9 mile run in Miami (5 treadmill 4 with the Brickell Run Club).  A 5k race and a 1 mile race on Saturday at the One Step Closer to the Cure 5k & 1 mile event in St. Petersburg.  Today I finished the Hooters 10k Classic race in Clearwater.

This coming week the milage ramps up with a 3 mile, 8 mile and 20 mile run.  3 MAX

I posted this on Facebook today and wanted to take a second and post in on here as well:
"Remember to always listen to your body. Stay within your limits. Slow down if you need to. Take more breaks if needed. Go to the doctor for preventative checkups. Just being active & trying your best is better than doing nothing at all. Stay healthy & stay safe."
Safety should always be your #1 priority.  If something doesn't feel right go with your instinct and slow down or stop.  Consult with your physician before starting any strenuous workout routine.

When do you get your long marathon training runs in?  Living in Florida it is very hard to get in quality miles before the temperature becomes unbearable.  Luckily starting in August and running through February there is a running club in Tampa called the Blue Sharks Running Team that meets at 5:30am for a 10 mile supported run.  The organizer of the Blue Sharks, Fred, and some other volunteers set up free water and gatorade stops about every 2 miles.  This group is my long run lifesaver!  I know that I NEED to get up Saturday morning because my support group is out there running, there is fluids on route, and the group support helps push me to complete my miles.  The only problem is the supported route is only 10 miles and like this past Saturday, my required mileage was well above 10.  I needed to run 17 miles to be on track for NYC training.

So how did I get in my 17 miles?  I set my alarm for 3:30am, didn't get out of bed until 3:45am - dressed, made two bottles of water.  Made a to-go bottle of Energy & Endurance.  Packed them in a mini cooler.  Drove to Davis Islands and started running before the group run started.  I was able to get in 4.5 miles on my own.  Ran back to the marina started the 10 mile group run with the Blue Sharks.  Ran most of those miles with Karen & Lindsay who are both also running the NYC Marathon.  Watched one of the Carnival cruise ships come into port which is always fun to watch.  After finishing the group run I went back out there and finished the extra milage with Karen.  17 miles done.  I was exhausted.  My average pace was not bad.  The temperature was just over 80 degrees at 4am.  Fun marathon training run in Florida!!

How do you get in your long runs?  Do you live in an environment where you have to beat the heat? Maybe there is another obstacle you have to deal with to get in your milage.  What do you do to push though?

One thing I tried differently during my long run was mixing together some Energy and Endurance to drink in between my 4.5, 10 and final miles.  I used in in place of GU gel that I would typically consume.  I had a favorable experience.  No stomach problems or lack of energy.  I still find E&E to work best for INSANITY workouts and 3-8 mile runs as the effects last for about one hour.  Click the photo below to try out Energy & Endurance.
This week my training consists of 3 days of running 3 days of INSANITY and 1 rest day.  If you haven't downloaded one of our INSANITY marathon (or 1/2) training programs what are you waiting for?

As always I am here to help your succeed with your training and goals.  Feel free to contact me at anytime.

Welcome to InsaneMarathon.com!  I will be updating this page with information about running, fitness, and health/nutrition.  I wanted to use this first blog entry to introduce myself to those that do not currently know me or my story.  I ran my first full marathon in October 2008.  It was the Chicago Marathon & it changed my life forever.  Since running the Chicago Marathon in 2008 I have ran a total of 15 full marathons, countless half marathons and an unimaginable amount of 5k's, 10k's, 10 milers, 8k's, etc. etc.

My goal with InsaneMarathon.com is to help YOU achieve your goals & dreams.  If your dream is to finally sign up and run your first 5k or if you are getting ready for your first ultra marathon, I want InsaneMarathon.com to be the first place you think of for support.  Some of you might not enjoy running as much as I do.  That is perfectly fine & there are many other programs and nutritional products available for you to use to hit your goals.  We will discuss and review them on InsaneMarathon.com.  I have personally had amazing success with the INSANITY fitness program.  Now that I am incorporating INSANITY into my running regime I have really seen and felt the results.  I have three marathons planned for this fall/winter & am looking to run a personal record at the Jacksonville Bank Marathon December 16, 2012.  I currently hold my marathon PR on that course.

I am looking for REAL feedback from YOU.  Please try the marathon and 1/2 marathon training programs, join us for a fitness challenge group.  Lets hear about your results, your frustrations & your success stories.

I will leave you with a success story I received earlier today while finalizing the InsaneMarathon.com Facebook page.
"I used Insanity, P90x and running to prepare for my first 100 mile race Nanny Goat. Less than a month after that race I ran another 100 mile race sub 24 hour at Western States Endurance Run. My crew was also awesome and they helped me a ton. All I can say is BRING IT!!!!!" -  Ace E. commenting on my Marathon Maniacs Facebook page posting.
